Episode 58: Spaghetti Sci-Fi Horror Schlockfest!

Bret, David, and Alan discuss two Italian sci-fi/horror schlock films directed by Bruno Mattei: Robowar (1988) and Shocking Dark (1989).

Now, all three Swearwolves love Italy, but they’ve historically disagreed when it comes to the topic of Italian cinema. Will these movies, blatant ripoffs of iconic American films, fare differently?

I enjoy these wackadoo knockoffs–Lady Terminator was my first (and a major favorite in terms of schlock knock-offs). I somewhat recently discovered (and enjoyed) the nonsense of Shocking Dark, but had no knowledge of RoboWars until this episode. Sounds like something I need to see and, thankfully, it’s a $2 rental on Amazon! Thanks for bringing this oddity to my attention!

But if you guys are willing, I’d love to hear you discuss Lady Terminator in another schlock episode (it could be Indonesian Schlock).

That could probably be arranged at some point… although it might kill Bret.

For what it’s worth, the diversity and quality of special effects and concepts run circles around Shocking Dark in entertainment value (IMO). 😉
